LORRY CRIME WARNING LORRY drivers were today urged to be extra vigilant after a spate of attacks on freight vehicles across the West Midlands. Officers have seen a slight increase in the number of attacks on drivers across force area in the past month. But the attempted robbery of a 41-year-old Greek driver in Warwickshire which ended with the fatal stabbing of one man has prompted fresh calls for vigilance. Police in the West Midlands handled 14 offences in February, many in the early hours when drivers were parked near the haulage yard they were delivering to. Officers at the Central Motorway Police Group have been handing out leaflets at motorway service stations giving advice on how not to become a victim. They want drivers to drop in for a coffee and a free security check the next time they travel through the West Midlands.
