LCV and Trailer Skills Course

LCV and Trailer Skills Course

Course Length: 3 Days.

Prerequisite: Must hold a full category B (car) licence.

This has been designed to help the candidate gain the skills needed to ensure they are safe on the road whilst towing large trailers with vehicles that fall into the category B driving licence class. The course length will depend on the current skill level of the candidate based on an assessment. All training is carried out in RHA vehicles and can be delivered on a one to one or two to one basis. Candidates will be taught:

  • How to confidently drive the vehicle combination on the road
  • Safe loading and the effects of extra weight on the vehicle
  • Reverse safely into a parking bay
  • Safe coupling and uncoupling

At the end of the training candidates will be assessed on their ability to safely manoeuvre, couple and uncouple the trailer before demonstrating their on-road ability to operate the combination safely. On completion of this assessment successful candidates will receive certification providing proof of reaching the required competence.

These courses are also suitable for those wishing to tow caravans, horse boxes or small vehicle transporter trailers.
